How I can Help

What is CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected. When you change one, the others often follow.

CBT helps you spot unhelpful thinking patterns, manage emotions, and respond in more helpful ways. It’s flexible, tailored to you, and suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.

CBT is recommended by NICE and widely used to treat issues like anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD.

What is EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps people recover from traumatic or distressing life experiences, such as accidents, abuse, loss, or other overwhelming events. It’s best known for its effectiveness in treating PTSD, but it can also support recovery from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and other difficulties linked to past experiences.

EMDR works by helping the brain process stuck or overwhelming memories so they feel less intense. While recalling a difficult memory, you’re asked to follow side-to-side movements (like eye movements, tapping, or sounds), which helps your brain reprocess the memory in a more manageable way.

Over time, the memory becomes less vivid and distressing, and your emotional response changes.

EMDR is:
-
Backed by NICE and the World Health Organisation
-
Used by the NHS and organisations like the Ministry of Defence
-
Suitable for adults, young people and children

Research shows that EMDR can work quickly and effectively, especially when mental health difficulties are linked to a specific traumatic event. Some people experience significant relief from PTSD symptoms in just two or three sessions, and these changes are often long-lasting.
If you've been through multiple traumas, childhood neglect, or ongoing difficult experiences, EMDR can still be highly effective — but it may take more time and sessions to fully work through.

What to Expect in Therapy
Assessment

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. In our first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other. I’ll gently explore what’s brought you to therapy and listen to your experiences, without judgment. This session is also a chance for us to think together about what you’d like to gain from therapy and begin identifying goals.

Personalised treatment, designed together

We’ll work together to create a treatment plan that feels meaningful and manageable for you. I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), both of which can be helpful for a wide range of issues.

Short or longer-term therapy

Therapy can be brief or more in-depth depending on your needs. A typical course might last between 6 and 20 sessions, but some people benefit from longer-term work. We’ll have regular check-ins to review progress and make sure therapy continues to support you in the right way.

Session length

Each session lasts 50-60 minutes.

Online & Face-to-Face Therapy

I offer both online therapy throughout the UK and face-to-face sessions in Dronfield, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best for you.
